Fiji Door!

So we finally finished our door for the door decorating contest! It looks AMAZING!!! here are some pictures: (Bula means welcome in Fijian)

these fish we made by the students, that have glitter on them and are puffed up with paper inside of them
My roommate helped me come up with the leafs for the tree, the trunk is made out of tissue paper and the background was sponge painted.
we used 2 things of Elmer's glue to glue the sand down, seashells were glued with a hot glue gun. the fish hands you see are the kids hand prints
there hand prints are also the students and done onto the glass to the side of the door.
tissue paper flowers made by students. i made the leaves with help from the roomies with cuting.
close up of the tree and leaves!
i thought it turned out great! we even have nature sounds (like birds and rain) playing in the background, the effect is really great. The judging will take place tomorrow (if it doesn't snow) and then the Multicultural night will be on Thursday!

Winter Bulletin Boards!

Here are some quick pictures of the Winter Bulletin boards that I helped my teacher with!

Catching Up

Hello again!
Sorry for the delay but last week was a bit crazy with all the snow, the roommates finally moving in, feeling sick and catching up on homework. First of all last we had Monday off for Martin Luther King, Tuesday was a snow day, Wednesday had a 2 hour delay opening, Thursday was normal and Friday we had another 2 hour delay opening. So pretty easy week though 2 hour delay openings always feel longer to me for some reason so they aren't may favorite but I won't complain about getting to sleep in! My roommats are back and this past week was our first week together and it was nice having those delays so I could spend time with them and not be at school all day. I was feeling sick but loaded up on Airborne and Echinacea so I think I have beat it. I caught up on some work this weekend along with rediscovering the Dollar Store. I always forget about that store but it is always glorious when I remember. I went to find stuff for the Multicultural Night that the other Interns and I are planning, but unfortunatly the Irish stuff they had was not the best. I did get staples and binder clips though :)

The Multicultural night is fast approaching though (this Thursday!) and I am all set! I have everything ready and will just be practicing what I want to say the next few nights to my roommates. The school is also havig a door decorating contest in sprite of the night and my teacher, the teachers assistant and I have been working very hard for the past while on making out door the best! We put up almost everything today and will just had some few final touches tomorrow. We have the country of Fiji and I must say when you round the corner in the hallway and see our door you will feel like you just got off the plane! I will be taking loads of pictures tomorrow and posting them soon!

Today I also taught the first of my 3 observed lesson of the semester. The lesson today was on non-standard measurement and I had a fun time teaching it. The students enjoyed being able to measure their arms with links and will be able to tomorrow to measure their hands, legs and feet. Since the math rotations are only 15min I did not have time to complete the whole lesson today so we will finish up tomorrow. Here are a few pictures from today though:
I'll be busy working on my portfolio once I finish this lesson because it is due on Feb. 8th so as always there might be a bit of delay until the next post.

Week One

Hello Everyone!
So I said I would get to posting about the first week this weekend and well even though the weekend is almost up and I need to go to bed soon, I still am keeping that promise! This first week back was really great though. I loved seeing the students again and my supervising teacher and teaching assistant. Right off the bat the teacher has to complete assessments with the students so I have been able to lead a lot of the morning stuff with the students and my own math and reading groups. I am glad that my teacher has gotten me to start doing more things right away so I don't have time to sit and get nervous about doing more. One time when I was reading to the students and asking the students questions there were several adults in the room (observing one student), which made me a bit nervous by later the teachers assistant (Mrs.S) said I did a great job with all of the commotion going on.

Tallies of the week:
students with accidents - 2 (welcome to Kindergarten lol)
number of shoes tied- 10+
number of coat zipping- countless

This week we got some snow on Thursday night so Friday we had a 2 hour delayed opening which I very nicely spent sleeping. :)

Over the weekend I acquired a bunch of children's books, mostly thanks to my mom! So this week I will be spending my nights reading through the books and working on the school wide event my fellow interns and I are planning, the Multicultural Nights!

Sorry that this posting is so short, but I wanted to make good on my promise to write this weekend but need to head to bed. I will work more on creating more time to write though and give you more full updates!

Fall Semester

Well seeing as Fall Semester is officially over I think I will review what I did in my Internship in the Fall for you all.

So when we began the semester we were asked to go into the school for the week before class started. It was really interesting to see all the preparation work before the students arrived and how the teachers get ready. I am working in a Kindergarten classroom with a really great teacher Mrs. A and a awesome Teaching Assistant, Mrs. S. Kindergarten had an open house during that week of preparation and it was great meeting the students then. It will probably help a lot when I have my own classroom for me to have seen that week of preparation so I'm really glad we got to do that.

I had to teacher three lessons this semester to be observed, twice by the University Supervisor and once by the classroom teacher. My first lesson was a math problem solving lesson. The students had to graph skittles by their colors. The lesson went really well and my supervisor loved it! Here are some pictures from it:
My second lesson was observed by my classroom teacher and it was a science lesson. The students were working on their 5 senses and I taught the lesson on smell. I prepared 4 smells for the students to smell and they had to use their noses to smell the smells and then come up with guesses on what they thought the smell was. The students had a great time with it and my teacher loved it. Unfortunately I forgot to take my camera off of black and white setting so the pictures aren't in color but they still look fine. Here are some pictures:

The third lesson was a technology lesson. My lesson was a conclusion lesson on nursery rhymes. I used videos from online to play the rhymes and then the students and I found and matched the rhyming words in the rhymes. The students did alright with the rhyming, they are still struggling with that a bit so the lesson did not go as smoothly as I had hoped but I still received the points that I need on the MTTS scoring. and my supervisor still liked the lesson and more importantly the students liked it. Here are a few pictures:

Another project I did during the semester was to design a bulletin board. And I must say I really do love what I did. Here is a picture:

The students loved the board and thought that their pumpkins looked really great.

Well that's my fall semester. And now over Winter break I will be working on my TWS (Teacher Work Sample), my portfolio, my resume, applications and the multicultural night the other interns and I are planning for the school. It's going to be a busy 'break'. Stay tuned!
